MAGEST: ESTs and Gene Expression Pattern Database for Halocynthia roretzi Maternal cDNA
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Ascidian Halocynthia roretzi is a good model organism to investigate gene functions in developmental mechanisms. In the process of early embryogenesis, maternal factors stored in egg cytoplasms are known to play various significant roles [1]. Recent works have revealed that there exist cytoplasmic determinants that direct the formation of epidermis, muscle and endoderm as well as cytoplasmic factors are involved in the axis specification of the embryo and in gastrulation [1]. In addition, the embryonic cell lineage is almost completely revealed by intracellular marking [2]. For these reasons, we became interested in maternal mRNAs as candidates for the cytoplasmic determinants and initiated a cDNA project that collects mRNA tag-sequences and their expression data. From the data derived from our project, we are constructing a database, named MAGESTMaboya the ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi Gene Expression patterns and Expression Sequence Tagsto analyze the data produced in our project. The MAGEST database can be accessed through the WWW (http://www.genome.ad.jp/magest/).

Update of MAGEST: Maboya Gene Expression patterns and Sequence Tags
MAGEST is a database for maternal gene expression information for an ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi. The ascidian has become an animal model in developmental biological research because it shows a simple developmental process, and belongs to one of the chordate groups. Various data are deposited into the MAGEST database, e.g. the 3'- and 5'-tag sequences from the fertilized egg cDNA library, the...
متن کاملMAGEST: MAboya Gene Expression patterns and Sequence Tags
MAGEST is a database for newly identified maternal cDNAs of the ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi, which aims to examine the population of the mRNAs. We have collected 3' and 5' tag sequences of mRNAs and their expression data from whole-mount in situ hybridi-zation in early embryos. To date, we have determined more than 2000 tag-sequences of H.roretzi cDNAs and input them into public databases. Th...
متن کاملMaternally localized RNA encoding a serine/threonine protein kinase in the ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi
Maternally localized cytoplasmic determinants play important roles in the embryogenesis of many animals, including ascidians. Cytoplasmic determinants are particularly important in the determination of cell fates, and in the establishment of the embryonic axes. Ascidians, which show mosaic development, are good models for the study of maternal cytoplasmic determinants. Here we report the isolat...
متن کاملP-215: Discovery of A Novel APA Variant of A Human Potential Gene Based on Expressed Sequenced Tags Analysis
Background: Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are sequences of cDNA fragments prepared from different tissue sources. There are over one million of these sequences in the publicly available database, and these sequences are believed to represent more than half of all human genes. The ESTs belong to different cDNA libraries, was prepared from one particular cell type, organ, or tumor. Therefore, th...
متن کاملVascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor Family in Ascidians, Halocynthia roretzi (Sea Squirt). Its High Expression in Circulatory System-Containing Tissues
The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-VEGF Receptor (VEGFR) system is an important pathway for regulation of angiogenesis. However, its evolutionary development, particularly the step from invertebrates to vertebrates, is still largely unknown. Here, we molecularly cloned the VEGFR-like gene from Halocynthia roretzi, a species belonging to the Tunicata, the chordate subphylum recently c...
